Jaswant Thada – Jodhpur
Jaswant Thada – Jodhpur – Sometimes known as Taj Mahal of Rajasthan, this white marble structure is within sight of Jodhpur fort and is best seen at sunrise and sunset with the Fort in the backdrop. It is the royal memorial of the former rulers of Jodhpur and was was built by Maharaja Sardar Singh in memory of his father. This edifice is a marble memorial to Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, sitting next to a small lake, one km northeast of Mehrangarh Fort and set around a manicured garden, it offers a grand view of the city. A silent and peaceful spot, away the noise of the city, and the views across to the fort and over the city are simply fresh. Built in 1899, the cenotaphs has some beautiful carvings on marble screens and interesting red stone contrasting with the marble. Portraits of Rathore rulers going back to the 13th century can also be seen in the interiors.
