Rao Jodha Desert Park
Rao Jodha Desert Park: Located in the city of Jodhpur, at the base of Mahrangarh fort and on the edge of the Indian Thar desert, Rao Jodha Park is an ecologically restored landscape, opened to the public in 2008. Located along the outcrops of igneous rocks surrounded by sand dunes and saline depressions it’s a seemingly bone-dry sector. The hot climatic condition feed the strong winds which sculpt the rocks and dunes around the park, rendering a distinct ‘ruggedness’ to the landscape. Sprawling over an area of 70 hectares, the park is part of the larger 400 Hectare wasteland which contains only desert scrub jungle and thorny vegetation, which aggressively flourishes in the monsoons. It now plays host to a bevy of birds and smaller beasts nestling among the sparse foliage.
